Forming Questions

Picture

Direct Examination

There's a reason that directs aren't normally the focus of movies. The attorney isn't supposed to be the center of attention during a direct. You need to decide what narrative you're going with, and lead the witness through the story. Your questions should be open-ended.

Cross Examination

Cross examination is the time you get to shine as an attorney. It's all about making the witness look unreliable, and maybe even getting them to admit to some facts that help your side. These questions should be close-ended, meaning you tell the witness what you want to hear. Delivering a truly effective cross is probably the most difficult part of attorney work, but it is also the most fun.
